Our Story

        Let me introduce myself, I am Olde Doc, the founder of Fernwood Soap and Olde Doc's beard and skin balms.  I started Fernwood Soap 25 years ago when my immune system changed after years of contact with toxic chemicals used in the collector car business that I operated for many years.  I suffered hive attacks, which were discovered to be caused by synthetic fragrances in soaps and shampoos.  I have a degree in chemistry I had never used, and cooking had been a lifelong hobby.  So, naturally, I made an easy change from restoring Ferraris to making soap, but not so fast back in those days!  There was no jumping on the internet to find recipes to make any of our products.  It took me about a year of endless batch making to arrive at the formula we have used now for 25 years.

      Our soaps are as they are called "super fatted", meaning our product has a lot of shea butter that is not turned into soap.  That allows our bars to be total body shampoos and conditioners for both hair and skin.  Over the last 25 years we have developed many other products, all botanical and all natural, as you may view on our site.

       The goals of our company have always been to make the finest products for hair and skin, but to sell them at prices that are affordable. We look forward to sharing with you what we believe to be some of the best personal grooming products in the world.
